“In January, we spent a week at Joya: AiR, exploring the mountains, dried-out riverbeds, and textured clays of the landscape. Walking through these terrains became an integral part of our practice, as we ventured out several times each day—toward the shifting lights of morning, afternoon, and evening—filming and recording the sounds along the way. The result was a short film that employs a motion extraction technique to highlight the movement of the landscape as it is intruded upon, while also isolating the distinct, harsh sounds of the surrounding environment.
The opportunity to share our work at the end of the week was especially helpful for us as collaborators. The feedback from the other artists was also very valuable, offering new perspectives on our work. Simon and Donna created a welcoming and warm environment, where the overall atmosphere was one of ease and support. The home cooked meals and beautiful accommodation were also a real treat, contributing to a comfortable and enjoyable time”.
