Supported by the quiet beauty of the Parque Natural Sierra María for three weeks, I followed creative impulses and yielded to vast expanses of time. Big blue skies, bright moonlit nights, and the warm sun contrasted with crisp morning January air felt so enlivening. I began each morning by lighting the wood stove in my studio and then gathered enough clay from the land to work with for the day. Clay, from right under our feet, was delightfully plastic and smooth. By mid day it was often warm enough to work outside in the sun.
At the end of each day we gathered around the woodstove in the house to warm our bones and await the dinner bell, which would let us know delicious and nutritious food was about to be served. Oftentimes we would be treated to a presentation from one of the resident artists before our meal when we would share laughter and stories of our day. Donna and Simon created a supportive and welcoming environment from which to enjoy and be inspired.
BIO
Kathryn Fullerton explores and responds to emergent questions arising from lived experience. She draws on Embodied Imagination™️ and Creative Dreamwork practices to facilitate the conscious connection between the artist and the rich resources of the unconscious. Clay, with its earthy, tactile nature, invites her to follow quiet impulses through deep embodied listening. Works that emerge from this process are not fixed or predetermined; rather, they are shaped by intuition, reflection, and an ongoing dialogue between hands and earth. While rooted in the spirit of our times, Kathryn’s work feels as ancient as the clay itself and offers insights into how to live in a world that is in a steady and constant state of change.
