OREA: is a continuous database designed for artists participating in Joya: AiR's residency program. It serves as a platform for them to explore interconnected local and global networks in the realms of ecology and cultural production.
Orea is a multilayered word that means beautiful in Greek, breeze in Latin while recalling the Spanish verb “orear” which translates in “to air” or “to get some fresh air”.
The primary objective of this archive is to furnish tools and inspiration encompassing academic research, fieldwork, rewilding initiatives, as well as intersectional and ecofeminist perspectives, spanning from institutional to underground realms. The foundational principle of sharing knowledge as a form of resistance is central to this evolving archive, fostering connections among like-minded individuals and contributing to the continual growth of the JOYA community.
Aspirations for the future include expanding the OREA archive to encompass a broader range of diverse perspectives and contributions. Additionally, there is a commitment to enhancing collaboration and engagement within the JOYA community, fostering a dynamic space for ongoing dialogue and knowledge-sharing. The goal is to continually evolve and enrich the archive, making it a dynamic resource that reflects the ever-changing landscape of ecological and cultural discourse.
This database has been compiled by associate curator Chiara Petrola (November 2023) For those interested in contributing to the archive, proposals for additions are welcomed, and you can reach out to pitrolachiara(at)gmail.com. The archive will undergo periodic curation and updates to ensure its relevance and depth.
