Jules Bleckman is a London-based figurative sculptor whose work explores nostalgia, cultural memory and past eras. Blending sombre themes with cartoonish humour, Jules draws on television, music, fashion and popular culture to create characters caught between distraction, dissatisfaction and the desire for something more. At Joya, Jules explored vulnerability, identity, disappointment and the stories we construct around success through collaboration, movement, role play and performance. Storytelling and gesture played an important part in the evolution of his work during the residency.
