Joya: flujo / Emma Black / 2026

Emma Black is a London-based artist whose practice explores the human experience from a non-normative perspective. Working with ceramics, found objects, wood, metal and casting, Emma creates fragmented bodies and uncanny environments that examine conformity, otherness, embodiment and control. Humour, the comic grotesque and absurdity are central, offering ways to navigate difficult emotions and articulate what escapes language.

At Joya, Emma worked with the fool as an embodied presence and methodology, embracing failure. Working with wild clay, gathered fragments and animatronics, they explored memory, mimicry and traces of the body. Surrounded by the landscape’s remains, they considered how the environment alters the work and how memories can be reconstructed through objects, replicas and movement.
