Cameron Young-Lee, co-director of Joya: flujo, is a London-based multimedia artist and tattooist whose practice explores the abject and grotesque body. Combining dark, punk-influenced aesthetics with immersive approaches, Cameron explores how physical and emotional landscapes can be transformed. During Joya, Cameron developed his approach to working with wild clay, experimenting with ways of processing the material and translating its earthy qualities into forms inspired by bone and the body. The residency also offered space to refine his distinctive tattoo practice, allowing the desert landscape to inform new motifs and symbolism. Cameron’s time at Joya brought together material experimentation, bodily references and site-responsive visual research. His work embraces the uncanny, material transformation and the expressive potential of the body.
