Charlotte Miles is a Sheffield-based sculptor and painter and recent RCA graduate. Combining absurdist thought, storytelling and humour, Charlotte creates moving painted sculptures that re-enchant an increasingly sanitised reality. Drawing on historical references and popular culture, her strange scenarios blur the boundaries between the real and unreal, embracing ambiguity and contradiction. At Joya, Charlotte explored the human body as a source of absurdity, investigating anatomy, movement and the uncanny relationship between familiar imagery and what remains hidden beneath the skin. Through performance, she experimented with wearing and manipulating her sculptures, testing boundaries between body, object, character and machine together.
