Joya: flujo / Anna Matthew / 2026

Anna Matthew is a Canadian ceramic and fibre artist, writer, and recent RCA graduate. Growing up among the forests of the Pacific Northwest, Anna’s practice is deeply connected to nature, materiality and the embodiment of thought. Working with fibre and clay, she explores how language, memory, breath and emotion can become physically embedded within material and object. At Joya, Anna investigated the ephemeral qualities of being human, focusing on breath, consciousness, and the empathy of material. Using the ‘memory’ of clay to form lifesize sculptures that capture the pain and joy of living in a body. Her work considers what makes us distinct while questioning where the boundaries between the human, the material, and the inanimate might begin and end.
