“Joya: AiR felt to me like opening a window. I walked a lot. I watched things move - plants, light, my own attention. The work became less heavy, less controlled, but also sharper. It was more like following something than building it. It became more visual and more attentive. At first the landscape felt almost like a desert. But after a while it opened up - blooming, alive, full of resilience and strength. My time at Joya was incredibly fruitful. I came with something that needed to be transformed and it did transform in a very unusual and exciting way. Joya gave me the space and focus to rewrite two film projects I had been working on, and especially to rethink one of them through its relationship to the land and surrounding landscape.
The place created by Donna and Simon is very special. There were conversations, shared meals, laughs, sunset watching, encounters that stayed. I feel grateful for this exchange, and the conditions that allowed something to open and move again.
The project was carried out as part of the ReSide programme of the Adam Mickiewicz Institute. I am deeply grateful for their support.”.
